On March 21, Keimyung University held a Nowruz event. Nowruz is a holiday in Central Asian countries such as Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan celebrating the spring equinox. It was registered a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009. Students from the Department of Textile Design received recognition because of items that they designed and exhibited at Preview in Daegu (PID). PID is an event where all new materials are gathered with prominent buyers from all around the world. Students show unique new fashion trends, apparel textile designs and knitting fabric books to buyers. They made four themed collections with professors during last winter vacation. Their items are evaluated for their fresh and novel design and recognized as different from others.In particular, they made contracts with the Kaisheng Home Textile company
On March 3, 7 students from the Department of Taekwondo were selected as new members of the national team. The team was selected by 3 organizations: Kukkiwon, the Korea Taekwondo Association (KTA), and the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF). They selected players by evaluating basic kicking, poomsae, and individual matches, and an interview. There was a high competition of about 11:1. Finally, 7 students from our university were selected. Their activities will be regular training, taekwondo performances, and demonstrations at home and abroad.
On January 29, Keimyung University founded the Center for Children’s Foodservice Management in West Daegu and decided to help some selected facilities provide meals.The selected facilities have no dietician who is trained to give people advice about what to eat and drink. Therefore, this center will send experts to give advice about food hygiene and diet.Furthermore, the center is planning training in the prevention of food poisoning, nutrition and diet, and safe supervision of cafeterias. An inspection team from the Ministry of Industry from Ethiopia, including Minister Ahmed Abtew Assaw, visited the Fashion-Textile Design R&D Center of Keimyung University on February 27. As part of the Growth and Transition Plan 2010-2015 in Ethiopia, this visit was done to view the Korean textile industry and use it to build this kind of industry in Ethiopia. Daegu Credit Guarantee Foundation is a public corporation that helps to revive the local economy by lending money to local companies or investing in local companies. When small businesses need a loan, Daegu Credit Guarantee Foundation plays the role of guarantor.According to the agreement, Daegu Credit Guarantee Foundation promised to be a guarantor for students when they need money to set up a business. Keimyung University students majoring in design got first prize at the Spark Design Awards 2014, a world-famous design contest. It is one of the world-famous contests along with the Red Dot Design Awards and the IF International Forum Design Awards. Jeong Eun-ji and Kim Jun-sick, who major in industrial design, and Lee You-jeong, who majors in textile design, invented an air pack fo a camera. The air pack can protect things in the bag from an external shock by pumping air into the bag. In addition, they designed the handles of the bag as a pump which supplies air to the bag.
