Recently, people have become more interested in health. Accordingly, more people are using Keimyung's athletic facilities. Keimyung University students and local residents often exercise on the large field, small field, and tennis courts. On October 25, a ceremony to deliver certificates of entrance to four gifted children was held in the President Room of Keimyung University. Those receiving certificates were Jung Sa-rang (13, female), Son Da-bin (14, female), Hwang Jung-in (15, female), and Sin Jung-woo (16, male). Jung Sa-rang, who will enter the Department of Russian Language and Literature, was born in Moscow and came to Korea at the age of four. Her dream is to become a professor. In January 2004, Keimyung University began “The Keimyung Movement for Sharing 1% Love” to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Keimyung’s founding as a Christian university. Executive staff and professors chose to donate 1% of their salary to help disadvantaged children. A new part of that movement, the “2006 Volunteers for Sharing Together” started activities in May of this year. The volunteers are made up of 30 Keimyung students and 30 disadvantaged children. Lectures in business operations, marketing, sales management, tax accounting, and general cultural studies are being given to thirty five representatives from dealerships in Kyeongsang Province including Daegu and Pusan.
Students from the Department of Textile Design have painted a 60 meter wide and 2.7 meter high wall around Banwoldang Subway Station under the guidance of prof. Lee Jae-beom. The students began painting in August and their goal is to improve our community's environment. The wall painting has urban bright rhythmical images of musical movements and dancers. The main colors are mint and white. Pink and dark purple are also used to create an afterimage visual impression when seen from passing cars. Illegal parking caused by the lack of parking spaces in Keimyung University is a serious problem. More spaces are especially needed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays because there are many lectures on those days, and there are not enough parking spaces for the afternoon lectures. Keimyung University sent a delegation to the 18th Annual European Association for International Education (EAIE) Conference in Switzerland from September 12 to September 17. About 3000 people concerned with university international exchanges attended the conference.
