2006 Volunteers for Sharing Together

In January 2004, Keimyung University began “The Keimyung Movement for Sharing 1% Love” to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Keimyung’s founding as a Christian university. Executive staff and professors chose to donate 1% of their salary to help disadvantaged children. A new part of that movement, the “2006 Volunteers for Sharing Together” started activities in May of this year.
The volunteers are made up of 30 Keimyung students and 30 disadvantaged children. They brought the community together at an athletic meeting in May and received a lesson about voluntary services in September. In October, they opened the “Green Store” which shares happiness and love in the disadvantaged children’s neighborhood. The Green Store, which opens over two days and one night once a semester, held a bazaar and an event for making natural soap. That income was added to the 1% donated by Keimyung University staff and will be used to help voluntary services and disadvantaged neighbors. In November, they will visit an old people’s home and share their love with the old people.
The 30 Keimyung students are continuing to take care of the disadvantaged children not only formally but also individually. They are expected to receive a certificate at the end of November. The voluntary service is very meaningful to students who didn’t know how to share their love. If you want to join them, you can apply in March 2007.
