The Lack of Student Parking Spaces

An Alternative Plan: The South Gate Parking Area

Illegal parking caused by the lack of parking spaces in Keimyung University is a serious problem. More spaces are especially needed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays because there are many lectures on those days, and there are not enough parking spaces for the afternoon lectures. Therefore, students who don't park on campus have to park on the roadside. This leads to traffic jams.

Jung Jun-ho, the Maintenance Team 1 officer, said, “The South Gate parking lot is big enough and there are spaces for 320 cars.” He recommends using the South Gate parking lot instead of the East Gate parking lot, but many students don't like parking there. Jung Ju-hee, a junior from the Dept. of Business Administration, used the South Gate parking lot and said, “I felt fear when I went there alone after studying at night.”

Keimyung University issued a total of 1,850 student parking passes this semester. That number was low compared with 2,000 passes issued last semester, but the problem is still serious because students need the existing parking spaces at similar times.

Keimyung University plans to increase the number of parking spaces. Keimyung University will make spaces for 116 cars on ground level and 316 cars underground at the Keimyung Art Hall, and spaces for 15 cars on ground level and 170 cars underground at the Center for International Education, as well as spaces for 70 cars near the South Gate in 2008.
