On November 20, Keimyung University Caritas, Keimyung College University, and Daegu Office of Education had an event called “Loving our neighbors and giving kimchi” to help underprivileged people at Adam’s Chapel.The ingredients of kimchi were prepared by Keimyung University and Keimyung College University staff who donated 1% from their salaries every month. Students from the Department of Urban Planning won the grand prize in the open poster exhibition of the EAROPH (Eastern Regional Organization of Planning and Human Settlements) Forum. This exhibition was held in Daegu EXCO from October 17 to 19. It is one event of the 23rd EAROPH World Congress.The exhibition was held to find ideas to develop urban planning and housing policy. From September 20 to 21, KMU ACE Festival was held at Bauer Hall. ACE (Advancement for College Education) is supported by the Education Ministry to help education become competitive and develop. The purpose of the festival, which was organized by the Center for Teaching & Learning, was to announce and evaluate the educational outcomes of the ACE project.On the first day, students who had participated in ACE programs such as K-Circle, overseas volunteering, and student exchange programs presented their experiences in the programs. KMU received a presidential citation at the 13th Innovative Technology Competition for developing technology for small and medium companies’ development. Only KMU received the presidential award among the country’s 4-year universities. Also, KMU received 5% of research funding in 2012 to supplement research and to help businesses.Evaluation standards were goal achievement (40), technology (30), the possibilities of utilizing it in real industry (20), and how much a university tries to develop technology to help small and medium companies. The average score of universities was 71.9. KMU got 80.
Jeong Jae-hoon, who is a student of Keimyung University, was the best performer in the Samsung Young Campus Reporter competition. He is a junior in the College of Social Sciences and his major is Consumer Information Science. Samsung Young Campus Reporter is a program where university students selected from the whole country report their own schools’ useful information and local events. The 2012 Korean Language and Culture Training Camp were held for three weeks from August 6 to August 24. 170 foreign students from Germany, Japan, France, and the United Kingdom participated in this camp. The students in the camp visited Korea to learn about Korean culture and language. Classes consisted of Korean culture classes such as graded Korean language lessons, hanbok experience, samulnori, taekwondo, traditional crafts, and traditional food of Korea. Also they visited Korean heritage sites such as Gyeongju, Yeongju, and Cheongdo to see historic sites and to experience Korean culture.
