The number of credits required for graduation in 2010 will decrease to 130 from the present 140. 137 credits will be required to graduate in 2008 and 134 will be required in 2009. The subject of cultural studies is currently divided into two parts: general studies and major-related subjects. This division will disappear from next year. Students from the Department of Japanese Language and Literature performed selected scenes from the Korean traditional play Onggojibjeon in Japanese in Japan three times successfully. The play won the first prize at the Sixth Japanese Drama Festival hosted by the Consulate General of Japan on October 21. The 23 actors and staff were invited to perform at festivals in Shimonoseki on November 22 (2 performances) and Bikogakuin university on November 23 (1 performance).The students' high level of Japanese and good acting ability helped to generate great interest in Japan. Keimyung University’s Worldwide Internship Program In 2007, Keimyung University will start the Worldwide Internship Program (WIP) to improve students’ abilities and competitive powers. A presentation about WIP was held on November 28 in Euiyang Hall. The Center for Student Development manages WIP and it is sponsored by Hospitality Korea (HOSKO) and Internexus. The 44th General Student Council (GSC) election and the 23rd General Women's Council (GWC) election were held on November 23. Hwang Suk-hoon, a senior from the Department of Statistics, was elected GSC president. Yeo Sang-sub, a sophomore from the Department of Electronics Engineering, was elected GSC vice-president. Korea’s Scholastic Aptitude Test was held on November 16. Our university is holding promotional events from November 22 to December 8 in Adams Chapel for 28,818 high school students from Daegu and the Gyeongbok area. At these events, there are public relations videos, student performances, and recreational activities. These events also focus on the establishment of the Keimyung International College (KIC) starting next year; the plural degree systems (EMU and SUN); the Nu-ri projects; the specialist education programs (CISEP, FISEP, and BSEP); and scholarships for foreign language specialists.
The Kemmy Awards is a presentation contest designed to allow all freshman students studying Everyday English Conversation a chance to speak in front of a large audience and win great prizes. The 4th Kemmys was held in the multimedia room in the Bauer Hall annex on November 16. The winners were Bark Gwang-hyun and Jung yu-jung from the Department of Nursing.
