Wall Street is in a decline because of the U.S. financial crisis. Lehman Brothers Holdings, one of the largest investment banks in America, failed. Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, and more investment banks are also faced with bankruptcy. The U.S. is the greatest economic power in the world. However, why did they face this crisis, and what will be the influence on other countries? The main reason that the U.S. experienced the financial crisis is sub-prime mortgages. In the U.S., when people purchase houses, they pay some of the money and borrow the rest of the money from a bank as a long-term lo

On National Foundation Day, I, one of the Gazette reporters, left for Provence Village in Paju, Gyeonggi Province. At first, I found the place through Internet surfing and got attracted to the picturesque scenery. If you like to take pictures, I highly recommend you visit Provence Village and photograph the beautiful buildings there.Paju Provence Village is modeled on Provence Village in France, and it was built in a sequestered country village in 1996. It started from a French restaurant. As time went by, many other things started to appear in Provence Village. There are ten buildings in Prov
I returned to Korea on August 11 after one month of my two year world bike trip. The reason that I came back to Korea was due to a problem regarding my visa extension. When I went to China, I already knew that China had strengthened its control over foreigners and restricted visas because of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. That situation made me so uncomfortable because I couldn't extend my visa in China, resulting in my return to Korea. When I stayed in Korea for a week, I prepared for my visa reissuance and tried to make up for the insufficiencies of my last tour. Then, I left for Qingdao, China,
What do you think is the common feature between the numbers 284 and 220? Maybe most people will find it difficult to answer the question. The feature the numbers have in common is that the total sum of each one's divisors is equal to the other number. This is called an "Amicable Number." This is just one of the unusual mathematical facts we are introduced to in Ogawa Yoko's novel The Professor and His Beloved Equations. The novel makes us aware of the meaning of life and love by using such unusual mathematical allusions. The main protagonist, Dr. Math, not only leaves a deep impression on the

Have you ever heard about pansori? Pansori is a type of Korean music. It is usually performed by two people, one singer and one drummer. It was proclaimed a “Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage” by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) on November 7, 2003. As pansori has influenced traditional Korean music culture, the movie Lineage of the Voice also deals with pansori and the lives related to it. Paik Yeon-ah, who directed Lineage of the Voice, confesses that she was often asked about Korean culture during her stay in the U.K. At that time, she real

Last year, I went for a semester abroad to the University of California, Irvine, U.S.A., through the support of Keimyung's Semester Abroad program (students of the colleges of Humanities, Social Science, and International Studies who participate in this program can study abroad for one semester). The memory there still lingers in my mind even after one year has passed. The public security of U.C. Irvine was good. One day I realized I forgot to lock my door when I went to school. As soon as the class was over, I ran to my house in a rush but nothing had happened. Unlike New York, which has a hi

Advice for the GazetteHello. I have been interested in the Gazette for several years. Actually, I can get a lot of information from the Gazette. The Gazette is a vital element of a top international university like Keimyung University.I have to give some advice instead of common thanks in order to make a better Gazette. Firstly, in my opinion the Gazette needs more competition from another newspaper in order to catch interesting new stories. This year especially, many foreigners are visiting our university. Their countries are all different, such as China, Russia, the USA, Turkey, France, Indi
