Great Scholar’s Lecture on the Humanities

From August 25 to 29, three Great Scholar’s Lectures on the Humanities were given in Seoul Metropolitan City and Daegu City: the first in Korea University, the second in Keimyung University, and the third in Seoul National University.

On August 27, the second Great Scholar’s Lecture on the Humanities, “Democracy and Toleration,” was given by Professor Martha Nussbaum, professor of law and ethics in the University of Chicago, at Haedam Concert Hall in the College of Music and Performing Arts. Professor Nussbaum is a world-famous political philosopher, ethicist, classicist, and feminist. She was granted a master’s degree and a doctorate in classical philosophy from Harvard University.

Professor Nussbaum’s lecture mainly focused on toleration, equal respect, the basic wickedness of humanity, and people’s religious faith. Park Sang-hyuk, a full-time lecturer in the Faculty of Philosophy, explained the lecture briefly, and congratulatory addresses from former President Lee Jin-woo and present President Synn Il-hi followed.
