  • My best year in America

When I was in the second year of high school, I had a chance to study in an American public high school as an exchange student. When I was younger, I always dreamt about studying in a foreign country. I stayed in Iowa State, which is in the middle of America. It is famous for corn and potatoes. The small town I stayed in, Moville, was green and peaceful, surrounded by endless wide farms, horses, pretty houses, bright blue sky, and cows in fields. It was the most beautiful place I had ever seen. I went to the public high school, which is a small school in the town. The school went from kinderga

I was looking forward to seeing theGazette No. 122, which met my expectation as previous editions. First of all, “Global Programs” was the most interesting and useful article for me. My major is English language, so I’m interested in global programs which help me to improve my English ability. In fact, I live in KELI dormitory, and I often drop by the International Lounge to be in an English environment. However, I did not know much about what global programs KMU offers students. Firstly, I was surprised at the various global programs, and then I decided to join some of them. Now, I’m planning

I have been interested in the Gazette since I was a freshman. The section "Color Psychology" was the most fantastic part in Gazette No.121. I love pink, so the pink of the page attracted my sight at first. I heard many times about "color therapy," but I didn't know well about it. But after reading the article, I could know each color's meaning. Nowadays, I can't sleep well because I'm worried about getting a job. The article said green helps to relieve stress and makes people composed. So I changed my bedclothes to green. Since that, I can sleep more than before. Also the section "Live Clubs i

  • The Fins that Help You Swim Far in the World

Which is your life like, a tuna or a flatfish? The autobiography of Hong Jung-wook, Afterwards Seven Acts Seven Scenes, on its first page likens types of lives to tuna and flatfish. Tunas must swim as soon as they are born because they have to soak up water into their gills to breathe. When tunas swim they breath, and while tunas are breathing they stay alive. When tunas sleep, they rest their brains but they keep swimming. Therefore, tunas should live in a vast sea because they should go far and wide in the world. However, flatfish are completely different to tunas. Flatfish hide and live und

  • [European Report]There is no "English"

I run two courses each semester in the European Studies Department, each entitled 유럽영어실습. I normally begin the courses by announcing to the students that indeed there is no English. Now, before you tear your hair out and throw your “Eye of the T.O.E.I.C” book in the trash, I will explain what I mean, but before I do that I must digress, as I have a little story to tell. The story you are about to hear is about an obscure Indo European language from a small Island on the western fringes of Europe. This is a language with a Germanic basis, and French, Latin and Greek aspects; a relatively new la

I knew about the “Gazette” in the past, and I read this magazine as a freshman. At that time I lost sight of the “Gazette,” but this time the magazine attracted my attention through the article about Prince Yeonsan. Because I was amused by “The King and the Clown,” No. 120 appealed to me. “The Screen Quota” in “Society” and “Prince Yeonsan” caught my eye.I had a chance to inspect this magazine carefully. Aside from the article about movies, “Interview” was easy on the eye and helped me to prepare for employment. The interview with Baek Seung-hee, who passed a unique interview, offered me a dif

  • My Childhood in England

Every student in Korea dreams about studying abroad. Thanks to my parents, I spent a very interesting youth in the United Kingdom. I learned a lot of things in England, such as English, the English culture, and a different lifestyle.I went over to England when I was very little. I was 13 years old and I’d just finished my first year in middle school. When I arrived in Heathrow Airport, the first thing I noticed was English people. They looked different from me, and I thought that was very interesting. My first impression of those people was that they were very kind. My mother and I got off the
