Keimyung’s Faculty of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering agreed on a collaborative integrated Master’s program with the University of South Australia last December. This program will be start in 2007. Students will complete a three year Bachelor’s Degree from the Faculty of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering at Keimyung University, and then enter a two-year Master’s course at the University of South Australia without the need to take entrance exams. Students can study either a Master of Engineering (Advanced Manufacturing Technology) or a Master of Engineering (Manufacturing Management)
The Keimyung University China Center starts the 1.5+3 Joint Program with Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) this March. This program enables students to obtain degrees from BLCU by studying Chinese at the Keimyung University China Center for one and half years and then studying a major of their choice at BLCU for three years. Any high school graduate can apply for this program without a Chinese Proficiency Test (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) score or a Korean Scholastic Aptitude Test score. Visitors to Daegu will have a new source of information on tourist spots thanks to the efforts of Keimyung University students enrolled in the Tourism English class this semester. For a class project, the students worked in groups to write and record podcasts featuring many local attractions not usually covered in traditional guidebooks. The number of credits required for graduation in 2010 will decrease to 130 from the present 140. 137 credits will be required to graduate in 2008 and 134 will be required in 2009. The subject of cultural studies is currently divided into two parts: general studies and major-related subjects. This division will disappear from next year. The 44th General Student Council (GSC) election and the 23rd General Women's Council (GWC) election were held on November 23. Hwang Suk-hoon, a senior from the Department of Statistics, was elected GSC president. Yeo Sang-sub, a sophomore from the Department of Electronics Engineering, was elected GSC vice-president. Keimyung University held a meaningful event for 175 disabled people and their families in Chiri Mountain National Park on November 4 as part of the Keimyung Movement for Sharing 1% Love. This event, named “Into Autumn,” was to show the glorious tints of autumn foliage to disabled people who find it hard to climb mountains and almost always live indoors. Keimyung University prepared 50 wheelchairs to carry the disabled people and 58 Keimyung people volunteered to help them hike.
