Changes to Curriculum and Student Welfare Systems


The number of credits required for graduation in 2010 will decrease to 130 from the present 140. 137 credits will be required to graduate in 2008 and 134 will be required in 2009.

The subject of cultural studies is currently divided into two parts: general studies and major-related subjects. This division will disappear from next year.

Virtual classes don't currently require student evaluations, but they will from next semester. They can also be combined with regular in-class lectures.

The current maximum number of students in a class is 80 for major classes and 100 for cultural studies, but from next year, class sizes will decrease to 70 and 90 respectively.

The maximum amount of students in a class who can receive a "B+" or a "B" grade will increase to 50%, up from the current 40%.

The Keimyung University Overseas Volunteers Corps now dispatches volunteers to various foreign countries 4 times a year. From next year, that will increase to 6 times a year and will focus on fewer places to create special "Keimyung Villages".

From 2008, students will need an authorized foreign language ability test score less than a year old to get scholarships.

Student smart cards are expected to be available from the second semester of 2007. Smart cards have built-in CPUs and memory. They offer higher capacity and security than the current magnetic cards.

At present, only freshman can get a free medical check-up, but from 2007, third grade students will also be able to get the free check-up.
