Korea’s Scholastic Aptitude Test was held on November 16. Our university is holding promotional events from November 22 to December 8 in Adams Chapel for 28,818 high school students from Daegu and the Gyeongbok area. At these events, there are public relations videos, student performances, and recreational activities. These events also focus on the establishment of the Keimyung International College (KIC) starting next year; the plural degree systems (EMU and SUN); the Nu-ri projects; the specialist education programs (CISEP, FISEP, and BSEP); and scholarships for foreign language specialists.
The Kemmy Awards is a presentation contest designed to allow all freshman students studying Everyday English Conversation a chance to speak in front of a large audience and win great prizes. The 4th Kemmys was held in the multimedia room in the Bauer Hall annex on November 16. The winners were Bark Gwang-hyun and Jung yu-jung from the Department of Nursing. A lecture by the Chinese Ambassador to Korea, Nyeong Bu Gwi, was given on November 22 in Smith Hall. The lecture was hosted by the Department of Chinese Studies. Ambassador Nyeong made China’s position clear about the problem between Korea and China. He said, “It is not all true what the Korean press announced about the Northeast Asian Project, Koguryo's history, the Baekdu Mountain Project, and the assumption of a territorial dispute. The symposium was hosted by the College of Environment and the Daegu Environmental Technology Development Center. It was held on November 23 in Ohsan Hall. A feature of the symposium was a discussion on how to decease urban “heat islands.” Urban heat islands are areas in cities that have higher temperatures than normal. Exchange Program Fair A campus fair to publicize the various international exchange programs was held in front of Bauer Hall and in the lobby of Dongsan Library by the Office of External Affairs and the Office of International Affairs on November 7 and 14. Former exchange students were invited to share their experiences. This fair was held to help students gain information and increase their participation on international exchange programs. Oh Hee-jin, who graduated from the Music Art Studies Graduate School in 2000, sang the song "Pleures, mes yeux" from the opera Le Cid by J. Massenetwon. She won first prize at the "5th Concorso Internazionale Pietro Mongini, Una Voce Verdiana a Ispra" in Ispra, Italy.
