The Green Daegu 2006 Korea and Germany International Symposium for Establishing Greener Cities

The symposium was hosted by the College of Environment and the Daegu Environmental Technology Development Center. It was held on November 23 in Ohsan Hall. A feature of the symposium was a discussion on how to decease urban “heat islands.” Urban heat islands are areas in cities that have higher temperatures than normal.

A researcher from the Berlin City Department of Urban Planning said “Berlin City established a Geographical Information System (GIS) that provides detailed information about the geography and characteristics of the city. The information can be accessed via the Internet. Daegu City will use GIS to establish a greener city.”
