Keimyung University got permission for an overseas employment training program from the Human Resources Development Service of Korea. Starting from the end of August, Keimyung University Korea Taekwondo Center is to start taekwondo training for 50 trainees. The trainees can get qualifications as taekwondo instructors or as gym managers. On June 12, Keimyung University was selected as an HRD (Human Resource Development) center for fostering regional industries. It will receive public funding from the Ministry of Education and Science Technology (MEST) to cultivate business talent. MEST selected 19 universities, and Keimyung University and Kyungpook National University were selected among Daegu-Gyeongbuk universities. On June 11, Keimyung University and the Korea Immigration Service concluded an agreement to promote understanding of Korea’s increasingly multi-cultural society and develop research into multi-cultural society. This event was held in the main administration building of Seongseo campus. President Synn Il-hi and Chu Kyu-ho, the director of the Korea Immigration Service, signed the agreement.The agreement includes supporting professors’ research as well as establishing a foundation for social unification, exchanging research on multi-cultural society, and human resources development.
On June 30, Professor Shin Jin-kyo, Department of Business Administration, was appointed the head of Daegu Technopark planning. Daegu Technopark announced the appointment following an open-recruitment process. He will carry out planning for Daegu industry and an overhaul of planning and evaluation of projects for Daegu-city.Prof. Shin graduated from Keimyung University and received a master’s degree and doctorate from the Graduate School of Business at Yonsei University. He has been recognized for his research on regional industry and his leadership qualities.
On May 15, Keimyung University had an unveiling ceremony in front of Dongsan Library attended by President Synn Il-hi, Keimyung professors, and students. The monument had a special meaning in that it was offered by teachers to students celebrating teacher’s day. The granite monument is 1.7 meters high and 1.1 meters wide and has a carved inscription which includes an affectionate message offering students teachers’ best wishes and encouraging them. It has significance in that the poem was composed by President Synn. Kim Yong-il, superintendent of admissions, said, “I don’t think teachers’ day
