On June 12, Keimyung University was selected as an HRD (Human Resource Development) supporting university for fostering regional industries along with Kyungpook National University. On August 28, in front of the College of Engineering, the HRD center opening ceremony was held. Kim Min-ju, a student in the Department of Visual Communication Design, won first prize in the Samsung Young Campus Reporter Contest. In the contest, Kim wrote an article and did public relations for Samsung. For this contest, she took pictures and uploaded them to her homepage. Furthermore, she added cartoons to increase readers’ attention. She said, “Through reporter activities, I realized that improvement of contents and design which can get a response from readers are important. Through studying and various activities, I want to become an illustrator of story books.”
Keimyung University is the only university in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk area selected for the 2009 Korean Government Scholarship Program for Graduate Students. This program helps foreign scholarship students to prepare to enter graduate schools and to learn Korean. On August 1, Prof. Lee Kyu-hyung (Dept. of Taekwondo) was invited to the 26th World Taekwondo Championship, and was awarded a presidential citation from President Barack Obama. Recently, 'World a Musical Contest of Auspices of the Dresden Opera House in Germany' opened in Seoul with auspices of the German Embassy and, Jeon Sang-min, a tenor who graduated from Keimyung University, was selected in the final. On September 6, he is going to participate as Korea's representative tenor. On Feb.2 he graduated from the department of Vocals, and he has since been awarded many prizes within the country. This concert by the Dresden Opera House is very highly regarded and respected.
The I-zoa team in the Department of Early Childhood Education won the first prize at the Chuncheon Puppet Festival 2009. The theme of the puppet play was about love for Dokdo. Thirty teams including university students and the general public participated in the contest. The judges felt that I-zoa's play Maegi Maegi Gold Island was excellent in its creative stories and in delivering good lessons. They were awarded a medal and one million won prize money. I-zoa made this play by themselves from the script, puppets, and props to the sound effects. This play calls attention to the historical worth
