Keimyung University was selected as a model school using bicycles within the campus by the Ministry of Public Administration and Security (MOPAS). As a result, Keimyung University plans to construct a system which enables students to lend bicycles free of charge using 200 million won of government funding money and donated bicycles in two years.Moreover, the present number of 17 bicycle racks is to be increased to 49, which means 30 more racks will be added to the campus from next year. Keimyung University staff donated to the fellowship fund for Keimyung’s future. Nineteen staff, including Son In-ho, the Chairman of the steering committee, delivered 105,971,000 won on behalf of 303 other staff who participated in the donation on November 2nd. This contribution money has been saved during the last year. The money is to be used for the fellowship fund and for students’ scholarships.
On December 11, Kim Min-ju, a senior in the Department of Visual Communication Design in the College of Media Arts, won a gold prize and received 2,000,000 won prize money. She exhibited het storybook titled, Awaken the Giant within, in the 28th Daegu Design Exhibition held at Daegu Gyeongbuk Design Center. Kim's storybook was highly regarded for its visual illustrating technique based on outstanding ideas and creativity in its content. On October 27, “Youth Playground” won the first prize in the 4th sports industry promotion idea contest. The members are Lim Hyun-suk (senior, Department of Public Administration), Lee Jong-su (junior, Department of Management Information Systems) and Yoon Ha-na (senior, Department of Tourism Management).The team passed a preliminary test for the plan they submitted, titled, ‘A Strategy for Organizing Silver Sports and Make it Grow,’ and won the first prize, given by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and received five million won at the award ceremony.
On December 2, the ceremony of delivering the development fund donated by Keimyung graduates’ association from Daegu Bank was held in the Office of the President. The vice-president, the Superintendent of External Affairs, and the Chief Officer of Public Relations, the City Business Center manager, the manager of Wolbae Business Center, the Kangchon branch, the Keimyung University branch and the vice manager of Daegu Bank participated in this ceremony. On November 13, President Synn Il-hi was appointed as the Chairman of Daegu Love Campaign. He will be involved in this capacity for the following two years. Daegu Love Campaign was founded in 1996, and now consists of 137 local communities. They encouraged the opening of fences and neighborhood love by donating money to people. They have received support money of one billion, seven hundred won from Daegu Bank.
The 47th General Student Council (GSC) and the 26th General Women’s Council (GWC) elections were held on November 19. The ballots were cast from 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the polling place in each college. On October 6, the 2009 Fujitsu Mobile Phone Design Award was held in Japan. More than two thousand works were exhibited, coming from many parts of the world. Go Jin-gown, a student in the Department of Industrial Design at Keimyung University, won the first prize in this contest by presenting his work, 'Gesture,' as it was highly valued for its use of commodities and its potential market value.The mobile phone that he designed was made to function as a camera, mp3 player, and telephone automatically by the typing of users who clutch the phone.
