Students form the Department of Theatre Arts won second prize at the 1st Daegu International Musical Festival with their musical, Jekyll and Hyde. The students performed two sold-out shows on June 6 at the Daegu Citizen Center. A Confucian academy was established on campus for the first time in Gyeong-buk province. Confucian academies are nonprofit educational institutions that the Chinese government supports to spread its culture and language. Our university held the 1st International University Taekwondo Tournament from July 7 to 9. In total, 12 teams from 9 countries participated in the tournament. The aim of the tournament is to promote the spread and development of Taekwondo. Professor Bae Young-sang said, “This tournament is quite different from existing games which focus on matches. On June 2nd, the 15th Hermes English Speech Contest was held in the multimedia room of the new Bauer Hall. Forty-seven students from universities across the Daegu and Kyungbook area competed in the morning preliminary round, with 16 chosen for the afternoon final round.
