The 2016 Spring Camp for KMU Freshmen was held from January 11 to 16 at Keimyung University dormitory. The camp was conducted by the KMU Admissions Office. The Ministry of Education gave full financial support to KMU. The purpose of the camp was for freshman to experience campus life and to enhance basic learning skills and sociality before entering Keimyung University.The 2016 Spring Camp was for 150 freshmen who passed the 2016 nonscheduled admission, and provided lectures about basic studies and essential skills for real university classes. A whirling dervish performance and Sufism workshop was held on November 11 at KMU Haedam Concert Hall. Gyeongsangbuk-do province and KMU Center for Silk Road and Central Asia jointly hosted the workshop to introduce Sufism (mystical thought of Islam). The event comprised a special lecture and a sema performance by a Turkish whirling dervish (semazen) dance team. On November 27, the Keimyung Cantata Recital was held at the Keimyung Art Center. The Keimyung Cantata is a musical work created to commemorate the 115th anniversary of Keimyung University. The main pieces were composed based on Jang Ok-Kwan’s poems. Jang Ok-Kwan is a Fine Arts professor at Keimyung University. The whole recital is composed of nine different pieces performed by several talented musicians. A guest lecture by Kishimi Ichiro, the author of the best seller Courage to be Disliked, was held at KMU’s College of Business Administration on November 13. The theme of the lecture was a message that he hopes to convey to young people about philosophies of life.Kishimi Ichiro believes that “We should not be afraid to be hated by others. If you are hated by someone, it is proof that you live by your own rules.” His ideas about relationships are based on the psychology of Adler. The Dongsan Hospital medical service team provided medical services for 10 days in Nepal’s small country villages Pulbari and Rum returned to Korea on November 7. The team consisted of 24 people in various medical areas including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, administrators, religious support people and nursing students. They carried out a plan to help 1,000 Nepalese people who hadn’t received medical treatment. A lecture about an old book owned by KMU Dongsan Library was held in Daegu Metropolitan Central Library on November 11. It was free to Daegu citizens who had an interest in tradition and culture. The topic was “Daegu history and culture through Nakjae Ilgi.” Professor Park Young-ho from Kyungpook National University lectured.Nakjae Ilgi is a diary which recorded the true experiences of Seo Sa-won. One was the 22nd Busan Fashion Design Contest and the other was the 2015 Korea Shoe Design Competition.
