On February 26, the 2010 KMU entrance ceremony was held in the gym on Seongseo campus.Seo Jong-bin (Department of Taekwondo), took an oath on behalf of 5,465 local matriculates, and Suriyanonrin Ornjira (Department of Korea Studies), took an oath on behalf of 72 foreign matriculates at the entrance ceremony. On March 2, the International Students' Orientation was held in Room 402 in the Center for International Education building at 9:30 a.m.During the orientation, Dr. Park Sang-hyuk, Director of International Affairs, greeted the international students. All staff members of the International Affairs Office and buddies (Buddy Program) made an introduction to the international students through a video presentation by Korea and Keimyung University. In addition, international students were able to get information about a campus tour, the university homepage, and life here.
On February 17, Jeong Soon-mo, the Chairman of the Board, gave a special lecture in Woonjae room in Euiyang Hall.The lecture started with President Synn’s introduction, titled, “Keimyung Foundation Motto and the history of Keimyung University.” Chairman Jeong also gave a speech regarding Keimyung’s foundation ideology - ‘For the Kingdom of Truth, Justice and Love.’Chairman Jeong finished the lecture with his hope that Keimyung will develop and help to write history.
Um Sung-hoon, a senior in the Department of Electronic Engineering, submitted his paper to MOTL (Microwave and Optical Technology Letters), arousing the possibility of using optical fibers for measuring a human pulse. On 9th January, Ryu U-ik who was the secretary of president invited KMU. He lectured about the path to becoming a developed county in Hangseo Museum. About 300 students listened to his lecture. During his lecture, he said, “We need to search for a new way and it should not be the way which we already followed. And now is a period when principles and the ways of life are changing. So, we should try to find new valuable things for the world.” Finally, he concluded that we must try to achieve our dreams.
Keimyung University has decided to freeze tuition fees for another year. The expected financial burden following the freeze is to be managed through fiscal austerity. However, even though tuition fees will be frozen, the student welfare and scholarship system will be expanded, and all the members of the academic board are to voluntarily donate 10% of their own salary for students’ scholarships. Moreover, any excess from the budget this year, is to be used for student welfare etc.
On January 4, Shinhanchop, which is the Korean Classics Room in Keimyung University Dongsan Library, was registered as a national treasure. Shinhanchop is a book of letters in Korea written by Joseon Dynasty Kings: Hyojong, Hyeonjong, Sukjong, and queens Inseon, Myeongseong, Inhyeon wrote the letters to Hyojong’s Princess Sukhwi.The staff in the Korean Classics Room said, "This book of letters includes many of the kings’ messages inquiring after their family’s health.
