On January 28, Cha Soon-do, the director of Dongsan Medical Center, along with Korea Food for the Hungry International, dispatched medical volunteers to Haiti. Director Cha and Son Eun-ik, the medical service leader, participated in the ceremony of dispatching medical volunteers to East Haiti. On 9th January, Ryu U-ik who was the secretary of president invited KMU. He lectured about the path to becoming a developed county in Hangseo Museum. About 300 students listened to his lecture. During his lecture, he said, “We need to search for a new way and it should not be the way which we already followed. And now is a period when principles and the ways of life are changing. So, we should try to find new valuable things for the world.” Finally, he concluded that we must try to achieve our dreams.
Keimyung University has decided to freeze tuition fees for another year. The expected financial burden following the freeze is to be managed through fiscal austerity. However, even though tuition fees will be frozen, the student welfare and scholarship system will be expanded, and all the members of the academic board are to voluntarily donate 10% of their own salary for students’ scholarships. Moreover, any excess from the budget this year, is to be used for student welfare etc.
Keimyung University students received praise for their performance in the 4th University Theater Festival in Geochang. In this festival, fifteen traditional drama teams and nine musical teams competed for eighteen days. The Logic & Ethics Education Center was appointed in 2009 as a supporting business of lecturing humanities for citizens. This business started in 2007 and continued until 2009. This is the only such business in Daegu and Gyeongbuk. Every semester, philosophy seminars take place every Thursday and a course by the enunciation leader has been held by the Logic & Ethics Education Center.
