Keimyung University plans to establish a special institute related to Korea culture. As folktales are often being overlooked, a special institute plans to do folktale studies, looking into their simplicity, rusticity, practicality and our ancestors’ humor and comicality. Professor Kwon Jeon-soon said, “I take much pride in establishing the special institute for the first time in Korea. Students of the College of Fine Arts organized a wall painting volunteer team and promised to make beautiful wall paintings on April 1. They are going to draw wall paintings in the dark areas of cities, such as in public facilities, guard posts, and land bridges. On March 20th, a naming ceremony for ‘Namjung Pottery Lab’ was held in room 200 of the Adams Hall in Daemyung Campus. From February 18 to 22, the 2009 Berlin International Dance Festival, TANZOLYMP was held at the House of Berliner Festspiele for five days with 600 dancers from about 25 countries. Keimyung University students, Kwon ki-han (22) and Jang gi-yun (19), from the College of Music and Performing Arts, won silver medals in the field of modern dance. The prize-winning performance 'Business' was a dance involving two students portraying the daily work of busy employees. On March 25, Dr. Lawrence Taylor from the National University of Ireland, Maynooth, held a special lecture in Keimyung University. Dr. Taylor is Dean of International Programs and head of the Department of Anthropology in Maynooth. In the lecture, Dr. Taylor gave some advice about studying in Ireland and some information about Irish culture. He also outlined some of the anthropological research that he has conducted in Ireland and Mexico. Many Keimyung students and a good number of foreign professors attended the lecture.
On March 16, H. E. Norbert Baas, the German Ambassador to Korea, gave a lecture on the topic of 'The role of Korea and Germany in Europe-Asia Relations.'At first, President Synn Il-hi greeted everyone and introduced the lecture and the German Ambassador then talked about the topic.After this, closing remarks were made by the moderator, Kim Shin-hye (Prof. from the Department of English Education). They then had a period of time for questions and answers.
On March 12, a seminar on green development was held at Hengso Museum in Keimyung University. Under the sponsorship of the Daegu Green Development Forum and the Daegu Regional Environmental Technology Development Center, many specialists in the green development field, public servants, Kim Bum-il, the mayor of Daegu, President Synn Il-hi and Keimyung students participated in the seminar. Lecturers discussed many policies such as the 'Green New Deal' and 'Low Carbon, Green Growth' in making a green city.
