Letters from Readers

I must thank you for your hard work which helps me reduce my boring time. I am a new student from China and came to Korea for my graduate study. I have been here for about only ten days. This is the first time I have come to an unfamiliar country, far away from my parents, friends, and hometown. And what is more I still cannot speak Korean, so I am blind, deaf, and dumb. Except with Chinese, I cannot with communicate others. I know nothing about this city and this university. How lucky I am to have found this magazine. It is very useful for me because it introduces a lot of information about this city and especially Keimyung University. From this information I could understand so many things.

I liked the “Campus News” and “Better Campus Life” parts very much. They include things which are helpful to students, no matter if they are Korean students or foreign students. Beside these parts there are also lots of passages that attract me. I learnt about Korean culture and about some famous people in Korea, some of whom even graduated from Keimyung University.

In my opinion, the Gazette is an international magazine because all the passages are written in English and it does not only serve Korean students. It is said that there are about 500 foreigners who are from China, the USA, India, the UK, and some other countries in our university. Thus, please pay some proper attention to us foreigners. There are a lot of student leagues in Keimyung University, so why don’t you introduce some special and excellent leagues, especially some that foreigners can join. Third, I’m sure, no matter if you are a Korean student or a foreign student, we are all concerned about the situations of employment. You could interview more students who graduated from Keimyung University and now lead successful and prosperous lives. One day, when people talk about the Gazette, they’ll think it is a trusted friend and glorious guide, then you will have succeeded. I’m sure that day is coming soon. I am looking for the next Gazette. Best wishes.

When I was a high school student, I thought I would be a cultured university student by reading many books and reading newspapers every day. But it wasn't as easy as I thought because I couldn't subscribe to a newspaper after entering university. So, I couldn't find out about some events that were held. However, I really enjoyed reading the Gazette because it contained not only campus news, but also articles about current issues in Korean society, culture, history, essays, and even comics that will help to correct misused English words!

Most of articles were so interesting, but especially "My Best Year in America" and "Bang (방)" were really interesting to me. I've always wanted to go abroad and have made many friends from other countries, so I read the essay about studying in America enthusiastically. Thanks to the essay, I know how American high school students spend their time, and what they usually do during and after school. Of course, it helped me to understand more about their own culture too.

Through "Bang (방)", I could see Korean culture from a different point of view. Also, I learnt how foreigners see Korean culture, and what they think are the unique points of Korean culture. I never thought that Korea had developed many sorts of "bang" before I read it! It was such an interesting point of view.

I will take this opportunity to read the Gazette constantly for its useful and interesting information. I'm sure some day I'll be a really cultured student as I had hoped to be. Thank you so much, and I'm waiting for the next issue!

Since I entered Keimyung University this year, this is my first time to read the Gazette. On opening the magazine, I was afraid because all the pages were full of English, but the “Letters from Readers” section made me so curious about the magazine. So I tried to read it right away. Because I was very interested in someone's success story, I read the “Alumnus” section carefully.

“Alumnus” offered a story about a man who graduated from Keimyung University and became the youngest assemblyman in Korea. According to him, irrespective of age, he always had a consciousness of challenge. He is never afraid of any obstacle. One thing that I absolutely realized is that I must enjoy my campus life. He said that if I only concentrate on my studies without any interest about the campus, I could lose many things, have no memories, and feel regret in the future. As I made a strong decision to study hard without any other interests, his comments were like words just for me. By reading this section, I became determined once again about my plan for my future and began to think about my campus life carefully. This section also let me feel friendly towards the Gazette. I am so happy to say that.

If I have a chance to write another letter, I am willing to take the chance. I expect the Gazette will satisfy me next time too. Thank you for offering lots of great material!
