The announcement of a “smart car” components city in Daegu was held on May 30 in Euiyang Hall. The event’s purpose was to declare that the smart car components industry is an important industry which will improve Daegu. It was held by Daegu City under the sponsorship of Keimyung University.

Kim Bum-il, the mayor of Deagu, said, "It is meaningful that the new industry was started by Daegu.” In addition, Lee Jin-woo, the president of Keimyung, said, "I hope that today’s announcement will be the springboard for the development of employment and related industries in Daegu.” He also added that he will strive to produce Keimyung students who will have relevant abilities and who will help to change society and make companies better. Daegu expects that the new industry will create many new jobs and skillful students will be trained for the industry.

Professor Lim Mun-Hyuck of the Faculty of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering said, "The reason the announcement was held in Keimyung is that Keimyung has had a lot of experience in smart car technology. When Keimyung has institutes and facilities related to this industry, it will enable students to obtain many opportunities for education and employment.”
