To protect pedestrians and motorists, Keimyung University has installed speed bumps. Most pedestrians agree with making the speed bumps. Kim Min-su, a sophomore from Public Administration, said, “As I have many classes in the Social Science Building, I usually crossed the road outside Bauer Hall. Whenever I crossed the road, I was afraid of speeding vehicles. Now that speed bumps have been installed, cars have to go slow.
However, motorists say the speed bump in front of Bauer Hall seems higher than general speed bumps. The speed bump is also made from different materials than general speed bump. It is made from footpath blocks of clay and granite, and it is higher than normal speed bumps. In addition, there is no sign saying it is to be used as a cross walk and a speed bump.
Kim Gi-hyuk, a professor from the Dept. of Transportation Engineering said, “The speed bump in front of Bauer Hall was made as a cross walk and a speed bump to keep speeds slow.” He explained, “The speed bump was installed to enforce the speed limit of 30km per hour on campus.”
We don’t understand why Keimyung University made this feature. We hope that it considers users’ safety and dissatisfaction when other alterations are made.
