When you are suddenly sick, where do you go? A hospital? A pharmacy? Our university has a place like a hospital and a pharmacy. The Student Health Center in Keimyung University is located in Bauer Hall (104-106). The health center section chief, two nurses, and a dental hygienist work in this center. Although people know the Student Health Center is in our university, some students still don’t know about the medical services of the center.

The center provides various medical services including first aid treatment in emergencies and basic medicine for minor illnesses such as colds, stomach aches, and headaches. Five doctors (internal medicine, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, dermatology, and dental services), a radiologist, and a pathology expert from Dongsan Hospital visit regularly for more specialized medical counseling and treatment. The center provides counseling and basic drug prescription by the doctor in the center. The weekly medical schedule is as follows:You need to check the time to get the right medical care. During summer or winter vacation, you can’t use doctor medical counseling and treatment. The center provides a student health check up: a physical check up, a blood test, a urine check up, and a breast x-ray. This health check up is conducted once a year at the beginning of March. If you don’t know the payment of health fee, you can confirm payment of health fee on the Academic Information System. Only the students that pay the health fee, including exchange students and staff of the school, can use this center. However, if you don’t pay the health fee or if you are studying for a short term, not as a registered student, you can get only basic medicine for minor illnesses.

The Gazette interviewed the section chief of the center Hong Sook. About some students who don’t know the medical services, she said, “Information about the center is given to students every semester. The students don’t care about the center because they are healthy.” Her hope is that more and more students know the existence of the center and visit the center when they are sick. Also, she hopes that excessive users will realize other people need medical services.
