Students from the Department of Japanese Language and Literature performed selected scenes from the Korean traditional play Onggojibjeon in Japanese in Japan three times successfully. The play won the first prize at the Sixth Japanese Drama Festival hosted by the Consulate General of Japan on October 21. The 23 actors and staff were invited to perform at festivals in Shimonoseki on November 22 (2 performances) and Bikogakuin university on November 23 (1 performance).
The students' high level of Japanese and good acting ability helped to generate great interest in Japan. The Asahi, Mainichi, and Yamaguchi newspapers and the NHK Yamaguchi Broadcasting Station reported on the successful performances and the enthusiastic audience response. The Department of Japanese Language and Literature is trying to dramatize more Korean traditional plays in Japanese.
