On November 5th 2014, the Modern China Forum was held in the Smith Hall audiovisual room. The subject of the forum was “How we will fight the 4th war with China” This 4th war implies a new kind of war after the 3 historical wars fought between China and Korea and appears to be a war of economy and culture.
Chinese Studies in the College of International Studies hosted the forum and Kim Jung-gil, the head of the TVSC Daegu Broadcasting Company, was invited as an instructor. The instructor warned that the Korean Wave that currently has strong influence in Asian countries will disappear and be replaced by a Chinese version. Besides the cultural arena, China is already creating economic challenges for Korea.
Therefore the instructor advised university students to improve themselves in order to compete with China.
