Zoom in Gazette

The “Gazette” and the Internet

The Internet achieves many things at the click of a finger. It helps people buy goods, attend lectures, gain information, and meet friends everywhere. In my case, getting information and connecting to my friends became my daily task. I searched for my articles' materials and gained information about the places I would travel to for my articles. More importantly, I could meet my elementary school friend while backpacking around Europe thanks to the Internet. When I was a middle school student, my friend immigrated to Germany unexpectedly. I could not get in touch with her; however, I connected with her on her mini-homepage before I left for Europe, and I met her in Germany. I always felt troubled that Keimyung people don’t meet the “Gazette” like a friend everyday and everywhere. There are many “Gazettes” published, but many Keimyung students don‘t read them. In addition, Keimyung University has many students and graduates who live abroad and many foreign students. They are concerned about Keimyung campus life, but they have no way to get information.

The Keimyung press has just started an on-line news service as of September 8th. The three media: The “Keimyung University Times” (Korean Newspaper), the Keimyung Broadcasting System and the “Keimyung Gazette” come together to create the on-line news portal service: www.gokmu.com. You can see former articles, assert your opinion, and offer suggestions. More importantly, our site fixes the limitations that the printed “Gazette” had. First, we couldn't give readers campus news everyday because the “Gazette” is only published twice a semester. However, we can update campus news on the site, and you can read the on-line “Gazette” everyday. Next, many foreigners are not sure about Korean culture when they first come to Korea. So, we made the “Keimyung Expat” section where foreigners can give and receive information. That will help many foreigners. “Campus Capture” is the place where you can show your photography skills. If you want to show your photo to everybody, send your photo to the “Gazette” through the “Submit your contribution” function. We are excited and we want to make a great site. We know that we must not expect too much on our first attempt, but we believe that our new site will help bring Keimyung University to the world. Wherever you are in the world, you can join the Keimyung experience.
