Each corporation conducts unique interviews such as a climbing interview, role playing interview, a soccer interview, and a drinking party interview. The “Gazette” met Baek Seung-hee who passed a very unique interview. Baek Seung-hee graduated from Keimyung University‘s Department of Business Administration, and he is working as a branch manager in Aekyung Company.
The “Gazette” heard that you had a job interview with alcohol. Could you tell us about the situation?
Aekyung Company has three interviews, and the second interview is with alcohol. After several branch managers and a team leader proposed a toast, the mood became easy. We had a conversation about family, school days, hobbies and so on while drinking, but there were no questions about TOEIC or school score. Some people who had over 800 on TOEIC depended on their score, and one person acted in a drunken and disorderly way at the drinking party, but they didn't receive a good score. I answered briefly and to the point about my opinion. Most of all, I made the conversation interesting and pleasant.
What was the most embarrassing question in the first formal interview?
Well. Maybe the question was “Why don‘t you have a driver's license or a TOEIC score?” I said, “I was afraid that I would not see the beautiful world while studying in a library. I could see various worlds through a walking tour, and I could develop my physical and spiritual strength.”
These days, university students are studying TOEIC hard as well as qualifying examinations to get a job. Why did you not prepare any examination when you were a university student?
I participated in volunteer activities and soccer club activities, and I traveled instead of studying in the library. I gave love to poor people, experienced other worlds, and conversed with many people for four years. I considered that personality and interpersonal relations were more important than any abilities.
Finally, would you say something to those who are going to have a job interview?
I had handicaps such as a local university, just over 3.0 grade point average, and English ability. However, I had strong confidence, and I emphasized important things that I think more than important things that others think. Have self-confidence! And if you have stress about studying, go on a trip! A trip helps you get confidence as well as get rid of stress. Lastly, I felt that I should know the management ideology of the company. In the case of the manufacturing industry, you should know the main item of the company and the differences between the company and its competitors. If you acquire information in several books or sites as well as the cover story of the “Keimyung Gazette”, you have a chance of success.
