This year will mark the 10th anniversary of the overseas voluntary service of Keimyung University. For the last 10 years, Keinyung students have performed voluntary service in China, Nepal, Vietnam, Mongolia, the Philippines, Cambodia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Laos, and Myanmar.
Prior to sending volunteers, the Overseas Voluntary Service Team surveys the region and items such as school supplies and equipment for education to offer people practical assistance. Volunteers have to wear uniforms, vests, and hats given by Keimyung University and they must not act individually and take photographs during voluntary service days. In addition, they sleep in classes and make food by purchasing local ingredients.
The cost of the overseas voluntary service is supported by the supporting fund from the contributions of Keimyung staff and professors.
Lee Byeong-ro, the dean of students, said, “Overseas voluntary service is a really good chance to broaden students’ viewpoints and take some time for introspection.”
