Keimyung University Undergraduate Choi Young-yoon Interns at the UN

From March to July 2011, Choi Young-yoon, an undergraduate student at Keimyung University interned at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Choi Young-yoon is 23 years old, and in the Keimyung Adams College (KAC) department of International Relations. She said that “the UN followed the custom that required interns to be graduate students who had studied a related major. Actually I did not have such qualifications. So I had good luck and was offered a big opportunity to work at the UN as an undergraduate.”

However, her campus life had not been easy at first. Because all KAC classes were conducted only in English, she had lost interest in her studies and had a hard time adjusting to classes during her first year. Her biggest turning point came when she participated in the mock UN contest. Afterward, she decided to challenge herself and to study the theme ‘development in Asia.’ And then, she studied English in earnest.

Thereafter, 3 months before the semester was over, she actively pursued a chance to intern with the UN. Eventually she had grabbed her chance.
