Synn Il-hi, President of Keimyung University, received the Grand Cross from Germany for improving relations between Korea and Germany. Hans-Ulrich Seidt, the Germany Ambassador to Korea, gave the medal to President Synn in Sung-seo campus on August 21.
Ambassador Seidt said, “President Synn has promoted cultural exchange between Korea and Germany and improved international relations as chairman of the German exchange cooperation team. He became president of Keimyung University in 1978 and established the Department of German Language and Literature in 1982. In 1985, he was appointed president of the Internationale Gesellschaft der Deutschen Literatur. Last year, he helped establish the Koreanisch-Deutsche Gesellschaft.
President Synn said, “I am proud to receive this award. I will not forget the good will of the German government and people. I will do my best to improve friendship between Korea and Germany.”
The Grand Cross is the highest award for civilians in Germany. It has previously been given to Cardinal Kim Soo-hwan and ex-President Kim Dae-jung.
