Speed Limit Successful in 2011 Baja SAE

The automotive engineering club Speed Limit, composed of 5 Department of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering students, made the top 16 in the 2011 Baja SAE, supported by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), in Alabama. In this competition, teams made their own automobiles and one team member took part in a racing competition.

This competition is demanding because competitors have to meet international safety regulations. Other universities in Korea students had already taken part in this competition, but none had met the standards.

Team leader Yoon Jin-young (senior, Department of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering) said that it was a hard time because there were several problems with the brake system, and they couldn’t find components in the U.S. However, they devised a new brake system which solved the problem. Also he said that although they had other difficult situations, they were happy because they made the top 16.

Advising Professor Chae Hae-woon said, “The students represented Keimyung University and showed Korea’s automobile technology. They participated in the competition with pride.”
