Special Lecture by Hwang Young-jo

On February 15, the Korean national marathon team coach, Hwang Young-jo, gave a special lecture to students who want to be track and field athletes. The theme of this lecture was fostering athletes’ confidence and character to improve their ability. About 100 students attended the event.

Coach Hwang, said, “You should eat, sleep, and train well to achieve your goal. You can be a world-class athlete, if you only concentrate on your training now.” Furthermore, he talked about his experience. He said, “The marathon is an honest race. It is rarely affected by a referee or other athletes, and the record is decided only by your own effort. When I was a marathon runner, I trained hard by myself. Therefore, the team training program was easy for me. I wrote a training diary everyday, and I checked my record and my condition. For this reason, I increased the effectiveness of my training and I never fell into a slump. Because of these efforts, I finally won the gold medal in the Olympic marathon.”

At the conclusion of the lecture, he encouraged the athletes. He said, “All of you already have athletic ability. Therefore, if you never give up your dream to be the best and concentrate on training, you can be the best.”
