UNCCD COP 10

From November 4 to 5, a mock meeting for the tenth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP10) was held in Changwon University. It was held to help explain desertification and understand climate change and to promote the UNCCD COP 10 which will be held in Asia for the first time in Changwon in 2011.

The mock meeting included 3 committees. The agenda for the mock meeting was to find better solutions through cooperation between the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the UNCCD COP10. Only the first committee’s meeting was in English.

Students from Keimyung University resolved differences between developed countries and countries which have desertification, and they played an important role in achieving the committee’s agenda. Park In-hye and Byun Ukyoung from Keimyung University got prizes and commendations worth 500,000 won from the director of the Korea Forest Service for their performance on the committee.

Park In-hye said, “I was able to express my opinion fluently in English at this meeting because of KAC’s (Keimyung Adams College) education system in which all the classes are taught in English.” She also thanked her professors and seniors.
