English Speaking Contest

On September 8, the third English Speaking Contest (ESCON) was held in Social Sciences Building 124. The purpose of ESCON is to raise students’ ability to speak English, which is an essential element in getting a job. There were 9 participating teams consisting of an individual or team members. They made their presentations with PowerPoint.

Professor Robert J. Dickey (Department of Public Administration), who was one of the judges, said in commenting on the presentations, “Talk to the audience, reveal the source of your information, and talk slowly and carefully rather than quickly.” In addition, he emphasized, “A PowerPoint is just a tool for helping a presentation, so don’t focus on making a pretty PowerPoint.”

The topics of ESCON were free, and the winners were Park Sun-joo (Department of Psychology, junior), Ryu In-kwan (Department of Economics and Finance, senior) and Kang Yoon-jeong (Department of Political Science and Diplomacy, junior), and Yun Min-kyeong (Department of Politics Science and Diplomacy, sophomore).
