Preparatory Meeting for Overseas Volunteer Corps

On November 20, the first preparatory meeting for the 2009 Winter Overseas Volunteer Corps was held in Euiyang Hall at 4:30 p.m. This program is divided into three teams for Cambodia, the Philippines, and Laos. The Philippines team will leave Korea on December 28, followed by the Cambodia team on December 30 and the Laos team on January 12. Each team is to stay at its destination country for 12 nights.

The meeting was composed of an introduction of the leaders of each team, the volunteer program, and the countries the volunteers are to go to. In the introduction of leaders, Kim Yong-il, the dean of student affairs, said, “You are selected people and you are special. Have a variety of experiences abroad, learn many things, and feel what real volunteer work is. Then, introduce Keimyung University to other countries.”

After the introduction, participants watched the 2008 Winter Overseas Volunteer Corps’ video and had team meetings. At the meetings, each team leader explained the destination countries to the participants, and the team participants introduced themselves to one another.

The second meeting will be held on November 28. The participants are supposed to clean up Seongseo campus and have a sports competition to strengthen team unity.
