Students from the Department of Japanese Language and Literature won the 2nd prize in the 9th Japanese Theater Festival which was held under the auspices of the Consulate General of Japan.
The festival took place at YENO Art Hall in Kyungsung University on September 5. Only four teams (Keimyung University, Changwon University, Pukyong University, and Silla University) advanced to the final round. One of the judges said, “Even though we worried about this team’s first attempt to perform Japanese traditional entertainment, their acting was perfect.” They received a prize of three hundred thousand won and 10days training provided by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Keimyung University team, led by Prof. You Ok-hee and Shin Ji-sook, was composed of 19 students. Their play was called Kyogen, meaning “unreasonable” in Japanese, and they prepared for three months. The director, Jeon Jae-young, said, “We analyzed and researched many videos, and we tried to translate out of use words to modern language.”
Their drama Kyogen will be shown again at the Japanese Fall Festival on November 16.
