New Exchange Programs with Shandong University

Keimyung University is initiating two new exchange student programs with Shandong University in China, the 1+4 Program and the 2+2 Dual Degree Program. The 1+4 Program allows Chinese students to study Korean at Shandong University for one year and then study at Keimyung University for four years. The 2+2 Dual Degree Program allows Chinese students to study Korean at Shandong University for two years and then study at Keimyung University for two years. They will earn a degree from each university. These programs are only for students whose majors are Automotive Engineering, International Commerce, and Animation. The 1+4 Program students begin in their freshman year, and the 2+2 Dual Degree students begin in their junior year. Students on these two programs get their dormitory charge free and 30% off their tuition fee. 24 Chinese students applied for the 1+4 Program, and 13 passed the examination. They will participate in the 1+4 Program at Keimyung University in September. The 11 students who didn’t pass the examination will come to Keimyung University in July and take Korean lessons at the Keimyung Korean Language Institute. Then they will start the 1+4 Program in March of next year.

The Director of the China Center, Jung Heui-yang said, “These exchange student programs are appealing to many Chinese students who want to come to Korea because of the ‘Korean Wave.’ We are also going to give an opportunity to Keimyung University students to study in Shandong University. Now, we are in the process of getting permission from the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. We are also in the process of making an agreement about the curriculum and the expenses with Shandong University. Keimyung University student’s Chinese ability is important. Students who wish to join this program should study Chinese hard.”
