Red Dot Awards

Lee Ho-young (junior, Dept. of Industrial Design) won a prize at the Red Dot Design Awards 2009 held in the Singapore. This award is widely recognized along with two other awards, IDEA of America and IF of Germany. Lee won the prize in the design concept field.

Lee’s Road Printer is a kind of printing machine which prints out road markings or traffic lanes automatically by using the principle of computer printers. He got a high appraisal for using an environmentally-friendly design using solar power. The concept of his work came from seeing people printing lanes directly on the road in summer. He attributed this prize to the knowledge he learn from classes and his club activities. Lee has always taken idea notes and used to work with the overseas design team NGO. He says that his dream is to manage a private company after acquiring much experience from many other overseas design companies.

Yun Young-tae, a professor in the Dept. of Industrial Design, said that the unique education methods the Dept. of Industrial Design has pursued has resulted in winning prizes at the Red Dot Awards for three consecutive years.
