On May 20, 2009, it was the 55th anniversary of the foundation of Keimyung University. Keimyung University was founded in 1953 by Edward Adams, a Christian missionary from the U.S.A., and Shin Tae-sik, the first president of Keisung Academy. Now, Keimyung University has 13 graduate schools, 18 different colleges, and 94 different departments with about 33,000 students and 112,000 graduate students.
To commemorate the 55th anniversary, a slogan was made: 'Opening Light to the World,' along with a special emblem representing Keimyung University's global-thinking and engaging with the local community throughout its history. The round circle on the emblem signifies the universe, globalization, and the combination of both traditional values and modern values, while the colors of green, yellow, red and blue represent Keimyung University's strong will and spirit to contribute to a multicultural society.
The ceremony for the 55th anniversary was held in Adams Chapel at 11:00 a.m. on May 20 with many celebrities and congratulators.
