Keimyung University Students Receive U.S. Presidential Award

Keimyung University students from the Department of Taekwondo have won the Presidential Physical Fitness Award from the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. They contributed to various taekwondo activities at home and abroad, and so their contributions were recognized by the organization committee of the 2008 World Taekwondo Hanmadang in the U.S.

In August, the 2008 World Taekwondo Hanmadang was held in Los Angeles, U.S.A. Nine students performed three exhibition matches, including the public opening ceremony, along with members of seven other universities.

They originally entered as competitors, not performers, but they were asked to take part in the exhibition matches at short notice. Their adaptation to the circumstances under the guidance of Professor Lee Kyu-hyung and their performance drew a great response from the audience. The media also praised their achievement at the championships, and their contribution was recognized by the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.

Kwon Kyung-sang (senior, Dept. of Taekwondo), one of the students that received the prize, said, “I have received many prizes in many competitions, but I think this is one of the biggest. I will train even harder with pride in having presented taekwondo to the world.”
