  • The Importance of Directness in Diction

Directness, or precision of expression, is one of a writer’s greatest friends. Words like “great,” “good,” “fun,” “bad,” and, worst of all, “nice” infest and sully the prose of student papers the world over. I may ask a friend, “How was the movie?” And his response may run thus: “Ah, it was good.”What do I know about the movie? What was good about it? Was it the acting, the plot, or the cinematography? We only know that the movie was “good,” which means it was not “bad.” And as we all know, “good” and “bad” are not absolute categories when it comes to personal taste. This kind of inadequate re

  • Prohibition of Advance Learning

Advanced learning prohibition was passed by the National Assembly. The law bans extended curriculum. For example, when instructors make examination questions, they can’t use high school curriculum with middle school students. It will be effective in September. I think there are some positive effects. First, prerequisite learning prohibition makes reliance on private education less. Also, the burden of education expenses will decrease. However, each student has a different level of understanding. Some students who are more outstanding than others need advanced learning. I think that purpose of

  • Precious Memory in Japan

When I applied for the exchange student program, I really wanted to go to Japan, especially Tokyo, because Tokyo is the capital city of Japan. Therefore, I hoped to know Japanese, Japanese culture and society, and everything about Japan more easily than in any other city. After I prepared to go to Japan, I left Korea for Aoyama Gakuin University in Tokyo. For 11 months, I met many Japanese such as a famous creator of ads, a musician, a designer, and an ordinary housewife who likes Korea. They taught me the society of Japan that I couldn’t learn from books. Among them, I want to talk about one
