GMBA - My Destiny

What is destiny? Do you believe in destiny? Someday, when you really experience something that is destined you will believe in it. This moment I deem that the Global Master of Business Administration (GMBA) is my destiny. Why? Actually, before I came to Keimyung University to start the GMBA program, I had the chance to go to top universities for postgraduate study without examination in China, but for some reason, God closed that door and opened another window which led me to meet Professor Kim who introduced the GMBA program to me.

To tell you the truth, at the very beginning, I was attracted to the program for several reasons. First of all, the GMBA is a sunrise major which has not been spread in China and will meet the needs of potential job marketing not only in China but also in other areas with the globalization trend, which offers our GMBA students a gateway to the future. Secondly, in China, if you want to get an MBA degree, it is required that you have at least 2-3 years work experience. However, the GMBA program in Keimyung University makes it possible for undergraduate students to take the GMBA course as soon as they get their bachelor’s degree. It’s no doubt a lure to me. Last but not the least, all the lectures are taught in English which breaks up the obstacle for foreigners who want to study in Korea but have difficulties listening to Korean lectures. What’s more, the GMBA program is similar to the program called GSIS in Korea but the tuition is much cheaper than GSIS program and affords at least 50% scholarship to the students. Besides, because of the environment, I can also master Korean language. These three reasons persuade me to give up the chances to other universities in Seoul and choose to take the GMBA program.

After deciding to take the GMBA program, I took the IELTS test and prepared my application. It wasn’t necessary to find an agency during the application period since the GMBA staff really helped me a lot to complete the application. I will never forget the day when I arrived in Daegu. I was so depressed because I was seriously homesick. At that time, Miss Lee and other GMBA staff picked me up at the airport, arranged everything for me, and invited me to a Chinese restaurant. That made me feel comfortable and helped rid me of my depression. Actually, Miss Lee and other staff helped us a lot to adapt to life at Keimyung University.

How time flies! It has now been almost two months since we started the GMBA program. About GMBA life, I should say that I really enjoy it now. We are sixteen students from six countries: China, Canada, Australia, the U.S., the Philippines, and Uzbekistan. By dealing with people of diverse backgrounds and ages, I get the chance to learn different cultures and customers as well as to improve my communication skills. Meanwhile I can also build friendship with them. Isn’t it fascinating that when I finish the program I will have friends from six countries? Especially for our Chinese students, we are just like family now and do almost everything together.

As regards our GMBA study, it is so interesting in spite of a little stress since so much homework to do. However, only by this way we can learn the real knowledge. We have professors from both Korea and the U.S. I experience different teaching models from those in China which benefit me a lot. What’s more we are offered English and Korean class for whoever needs to improve language level.

This is my story associated with GMBA program and whoever wants to join us will have the chance to be the protagonist of our GMBA life!
