3C

Campus-wide Communication Culture Campaign

On March 22, the 3C (Campus-wide Communication Culture) campaign started. This campaign has the goals to improve the feeling of belonging to the community, increase communication between students and the university, and increase studying efficiency. Keimyung University began this campaign with several open spaces on campus, mutual understanding among the Keimyung family, and activities for the student community.
The university wants students to communicate, so the university made communication spaces in some colleges’ lobbies. We checked the campaign’s progress and if the campaign has been effective or not.

Open Spaces on Campus

Administration Team Windows

We have an administration team in each college. Some administration teams had a bad image. Because of that, the administration team windows were changed to glass to improve their image. From March, each administration team’s window was gradually changed except Shattuck Hall. We asked 181 students a questionnaire to judge if the administration teams’ image has changed.

Activities for the Student Community

Remodeling of Youngam Hall and the Social Sciences Hall and Formation of Study Rooms
Thanks to the 3C movement, Youngam Hall and the Social Sciences Hall were remodeled. First, people who have a notebook computer can use a free Internet service. Second, these places can be used as study rooms, discussion places, and reading places. Therefore, many students are satisfied with the remodeling. Also, a reading room was opened in Euiyang Hall.

However, many students don’t know that the remodeling of Youngam Hall and the Social Sciences Hall and the formation of a study room belong to the 3C movement. Accordingly, the university has to inform many students. However, the students who use this place said, “This place is very noisy” and “This place has a shortage of seats.” Therefore, the university is trying to expand the 3C movement to other campus buildings.

Internet Etiquette for Netizens
Internet Etiquette for Netizens was started to develop an awareness of student Internet use. Netizens have a right to liberty of expression. However, netizens also have an obligation and responsibility in cyberspace. Hence, students who read the rules will keep Internet manners. We can see the etiquette for netizens through the Sinmoongo program and pamphlets of the 3C movement.

Mutual Understanding Among the Keimyung Family

A Movement for Using Polite Expressions
To enhance relationships among Keimyung people and to share feelings smoothly, two campaigns are in force. One is the “using polite expressions” campaign and the other is “BISA Internet Sinmoongo” The “using polite expressions” campaign is used between professors and students and administrative staff and students. By using polite words they can enhance confidence and consider others’ feelings. We surveyed how well the “using polite expressions” campaign is doing and what students think about this campaign.

First, we surveyed how frequently professors and staff use polite expressions. The options were “Always,” “Usually,” “Sometimes,” “Seldom,” and “Never.”About professors using polite expressions in lectures, 94% answered more than “Sometimes,” and 6% answered less than “Seldom.” About their use in personal conversations, 85% answered more than “Sometimes,” and 15% answered less than “Seldom.” About the staff's use, 77% answered more than “Sometimes” and 23% answered less than “Seldom.”
Second, we surveyed students’ idea about this campaign. This shows what students think about professors using polite expressions in lectures or personal conversations.

“What do you think of professors using polite expressions in lectures?”
28% answered “Very satisfied,” 49% answered “Satisfied,” 13% answered “A little satisfied,” 2% answered “Not satisfied,” and 8% answered “Never satisfied (feel rather uncomfortable).”

“What do you think of professors using polite expressions in personal conversations?”
12% answered “Very satisfied,” 47% answered “Satisfied,”2% answered “A little satisfied,” 11% answered “Not satisfied,” and 8% answered “Never satisfied (feel rather uncomfortable).”

Finally, in the question about how helpful using polite expressions will be to enhance relationships, 5% answered “Very helpful,” 41% answered “Helpful,” 33% answered “A little helpful,” 12% answered “Not helpful,” and 9% answered “Never helpful.”

BISA Internet Sinmoongo
Since March 2007, BISA Internet Sinmoongo has been operating. This system deals with problems about educational matters. Its purpose is to increase student satisfaction and cope with student dissatisfaction with the school operating system or school management.

Some complaints were solved during May. For example, there were 19 problems about taking lessons, in connection with students and dissatisfaction with school systems, and related to professors or staff.
In Sinmoongo, the chief of the Office of Academic Support solves the problems. First he checks your problems, and thereafter the university president responds to each case. You can receive an answer from them through e-mail. Your contents are secret from others and only the president and the chief of the Office of Academic Support can read them. You can find and use BISA Sinmoongo at the top right side of Keimyung University’s homepage.

Additionally, the 3C campaign presented “Creative Organization Culture.” On campus there are a bill of rights, the KMU call center, and a 3C evaluation system. The bill of rights was devised to clarify that all Keimyung people should respect each other and also should be respected. The KMU call center aims to specialize existing consultation services so that students will use consultation services more. The 3C evaluation system evaluates how well the 3C campaign is doing.
