Kim Tae-hyun at Momoyama Gakuin University

The Gazette went to Momoyama Gakuin University in Japan, sister school of Keimyung University and had time to inquire with Momoyama Gakuin University about the sate of employment, educational facilities, culture in 2005. The interpreter who helped us to communicate with the people concerned, was Kim Tae-hyun. She went to KMU from 1995 to 1998 and majored in Japanese Language and Literature. The Gazette had an interview with her.

Gazette When the Gazette saw you speaking Japanese fluently at first, we thought you were Japanese. How do you speak Japanese perfectle?
Tae-hyun My pleasure. I was delighted to help the Gazette. Well, I majored in Japanese at Keimyung University and studied at Momoyama Gakuin University with an exchange scholarship for one year. Above all, I have been able to improve my speaking skill more at work here than when I was in school.

Gazette So, what do you do for work here at Momoyama Gakuin University?
Tae-hyun When I came to Japan as an exchange student, the number of students studying abroad was increasing and the exchange of culture between Korean and Japanese Universities was getting more active. At that time, Momoyama Gakuin University needed to have a Korean staff member who was able to speak Japanese fluently and I accepted the position. Now I'm working in the International Center of Momoyama Gakuin University. The International Center is a powerful back-up facility for the international exchange program. I give advice to foreign students in order to make student's lives easier. I also interpret between Korean and Japanese.

Gazette Korean say that Japan is neither near nor far. These days, Korean have resentment against Japan for distorting history. Do Japanese have a grudge against Koreans for these reasons? And is hard dwelling in Japan as a Korean?
Tae-hyun I don't hae any problem living in Japan. The Japanese watch the news about history distortion and the territory conflict on Dokdo, but don't have much interest in those issues. Moreover some Japanese only came to know about the existence of Dokdo recently after this issue came up. Nowaday, the Korean Wave, beginning with Korean stars in Japan, is changing Korea's image, and the culture exchange between Korean and Japan is getting more active. Maybe the problems don't influence the culture exchange. The Japanese who like Korea and hope to have Korean friends feel sorry about these issues. I wish to sole the issues through conversation.

Gazette Would you tell me how your campus life was? What were you interested in?
Tae-hyun I spent most university time joining Japanese study groups and working as part of the Arimi staff who guide visitors on campus. I was busy, but it was fun and exciting I experienced lots of good things through my Arimi activity.

Gazette Would you say something to the Keimyung Gazeete readers?
Tae-hyun It is very important how you spend your university days. That might change your future and even determine your whole life. Study and play and love enthusiastically!
