BISA Cheering Group

Keimyung University's BISA cheering group has been cheering since 1996. BISA was the first cheering group in Daegu city and the Gyeongbuk area. BISA's purpose is to unite Keimyung's 20,000 students as one. There are two men and six women in the BISA cheering group. The Gazette interviewed Moon Sung-hoon, the leader of the cheering group. Let's meet this young ambitious spirit!

1. What are the qualifications needed to be a BISA member?
I think it is very important to have pure passion. We recruit new members once a semester in front of Bauer Hall. All freshmen can apply for this, but we select members by making applicants join a training course for several weeks and we evaluate their passion.

2. What are the main activities of the BISA cheering group?
Usually, we have more performances outside the campus than on the campus. We often perform at middle and high school festivals, city events, dormitory open days, and all kinds of mass media events.

3. Would you tell us about your most interesting experience?
I performed at a boy's high school with eight women members. After the event, when we stood on the stage, the male students who were touched by our performance leapt up at us. It was like a riot! At that time I was standing in the middle and felt very awkward because everyone was looking at the women members.

4. How do you feel when you're cheering on stage?
When we stand on the stage, we feel infinite pride and confidence in our university. We can have unique experiences that other students can't have. We feel stronger pride when we perform outside the campus because we can educate our audience about Keimyung University.

5. What are the problems with our university's festival?
Unlike other universities, I think we have a lack of unique events. It is hard to find people who really enjoy our festival. Many other university's students don't visit our festival. The biggest problem is that there is no variety of events. I'm sorry our festival focuses only on invitation singers.

6. Are there any difficulties being a BISA cheering group member?
The most difficult thing is that we have no room to practice dancing. We practice watching our reflections in the window on a slippery floor on the second floor of Bauer Hall without a mirror. When I see members bruise themselves, twist their ankles, or break bones, I always grieve as their leader. We hope that the university will increase their financial support for us.

7. Would you say something to Keimyung students?
A university's image is made by its students. When I see students who don't have pride in our university, I'm sorry about that. I hope our students will have a mind to love our university. I want students to recognize that we are dedicated to informing others about our university. I hope that students can improve the Keimyung university culture together.
