In celebration of its 125th anniversary, Keimyung University hosted the inaugural “University Essay Contest,” which ran from November 6 to December 6, lasting 20 days. The contest invited participants to explore the theme, “If AI thinks, what is man?” across seven distinct categories. Undergraduate stu dents submitted essays in six areas: Humanities (Humanistic Perspectives), Social Sciences (Social Perspectives), Natural Sciences and En gineering (Scientific Perspectives), Arts (Artis tic Perspectives), and Religion (Religious Per spectives). Except for the Religion category, submissions were restricted to students enrolled in corresponding colleges. Graduate students, however, were permitted to choose freely from any of the six categories, culminating in the seventh overall category: Graduate Student Es says. A total of 52 entries were received. The award ceremony took place on Decem ber 6 in the Second Meeting Room of Hengso Hall. Awards were presented to nine students in each category: one Grand Prize, one Excel lence Award, two Merit Awards, and five Hon orable Mentions. Winners received certificates and scholarships, with the Grand Prize, Excel lence Award, and Merit Award recipients earn ing additional Compass K scores of 30, 20, and 10 points, respectively. Jung Ye-ram, who won the Grand Prize Award in the Religion category, expressed her thoughts, saying, “This essay provided a great opportunity to organize my thoughts and insights on the ques tion of whether AI can replace human pastors.”
