Keimyung's Beautiful Campus

We can easily see Keimyung University campus in movies and dramas. "Ditto," "Hourglass," "Legend of Ambition," "Crazy First Love," and many movies and dramas (about 30 works) have been made in our campus. While making "White Night" 3.98 in Daemyung campus, the director, Kim Jong-hak, who also made "Hourglass," said Keimyung University is the best place for making movies and dramas.

Overall, our campus is influenced by Greek traditional architecture. Doric pillars are the most important in the Doric style. The two main administration buildings and the main entrance in Sungseo campus have Doric pillar features. Other structures have Korean baehulim architecture (the center of the pillar is thicker than its edge). Professor Gong Sung-hun of Architectural Engineering said the red brick, white cement between the bricks, and baehulim pillars of our campus show harmony between the Orient and the West.

There are about 120 sorts of trees and about 100,000 trees in our campus. As the seasons change, the trees change. Trees play an important role in making the harmony of campus. In addition, because the chapel is located on a hill, the view from the chapel is more beautiful. Members of “Dica in Daegu,” who take pictures of Daegu, chose the chapel as a special place of beautiful night views. If you have a chance to go up to the chapel at night, you certainly need to take a camera. There is another special thing in our campus. The main gates of other universities face the main administration building, but our university’s main gate faces the library. The library is the main place for students in the campus. Because knowledge and students are the center of the university, the library is in front of the main gate. There are ginkgos, the symbol of Keimyung University, on the road between the main gate and the library. Straight and strong ginkgos mean strong will and infinite improvement. As time passes, our campus is considered more and more a landmark. It was chosen among the “Top 10 Most Beautiful Campuses” by the "University News Network" in 2003. Hanhakchon (Korean traditional village) and Haengso Museum in Sungseo campus were picked for the City Tour Course by Daegu. By March 2007, the Keimyung Art Hall will be constructed. I hope it will be an important landmark.
