Moreover, as some companies had their information stolen, the importance of information security is growing day by day. There is a job that protects information. That is a specialist in information security(SIS).
Role
A specialist in information security (SIS) prevents hackers from watching, destroying, or changing important information without permission. Furthermore, specialists in information security set up a measures against all sorts of viruses and invasions by hackers, and if a computer gets a virus, they recover lost data. Therefore, they have to study new hacking methods, and they need to have knowledge of information security.
Because today in companies and government agencies, most information is saved on computers, specialists in information security can work for various companies and government agencies. Notable examples are banks, the Korea Internet andSecurity Agency, portal sites like Naver and Daum, online game and mobile game companies, information security companies like AhnLab and Avast, computer emergency response teams(CERT) in companies, the National Intelligence Service(NIS),and the cyber headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense.
Qualifications
To be a specialist in information security, passing the Specialist in Information Security test organized by the Korea Internet and Security Agency (KISA) was needed. However, that test was abolished in December 2012, and since 2013,a new test named the Engineer Information (Industrial) Security test have been organized by theKorea Internet andSecurity Agency. TheEIS test is divided into a written examination and a practical examination. Specifically written examination is 5 and the examination is five hours long. The subjects of the written examination are system security, network security, application security, information security, and administration law that regulation of information security, and the subject of the practical test is practical information security. The test is held twice a year.
Prospects
In most companies and in the government, information leakage is a serious problem. Therefore, in the government, there is a special agency for information security. In addition, many companies are realizing theimportance of specialistsin information security. Therefore, the demand for specialists in information security in companies will increase. According to theKorea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training (KRIVET), specialist in information security was ranked number one in rising income level, and in the portal site CareerNet, specialist in information security was ranked number two in promising career. Therefore, the prospects for specialists in information security are bright.
